Paul Harlow's Obituary
Paul died at the age of 85 on Thursday, November 15, 2018 having been born December 25, 1932 in Ludington to Odis and Adella Miers Harlow.
Visitation will begin Saturday, November 17, 2018, from 4 PM until 8:00 PM, in Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 18, 2018, 2:00 PM, at the First Baptist Church in DeRidder with Rev. Lindsey Burns officiating. Interment will follow at Beauregard Cemetery, DeRidder, LA.
After attending DeRidder High School, he joined the United States Air Force and served one year in Korea and three years in the States. He worked for three years at Fort Polk with the Fire Department then became employed with the Postal Service where he retired after 30 years. He was then employed for 25 years with various voting machine companies.
Paul was a member of First Baptist Church, having been baptized there on March 16, 1944. Paul was a very active member within the DeRidder community while serving as a 32nd Degree Mason, past Commander of the American Legion Post 27, the Korean War Veterans Association, VFW Post 3619, and the Shriners Habibi Temple of Lake Charles.
Paul was a passionate collector and had a special place he called the “Golden Pond Asylum”. Where he had a wide array of quirky collectables. No matter how small or big, each item had a story. Many of his stories were questionable but always interesting.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Paul Craig and Paul Ramon Harlow; sisters, Ruth McCullough and husband Elmer, Faye Kahn; 3 brothers, Fred Harlow and his wife Louise, Charles Harlow and wife Yaeko, John David Harlow; brother-in-laws, Franklin Carroll, L. H. Sandefer and wife Lillian Ruth, Elton Sandefer, Morris Sandefer and wife Virginia; mother-in-law, Clara Moore Sandefer; and father-in-law, Homer Sandefer.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years Clara Sandefer Harlow; granddaughter, Taylor Harlow; grandson, Conner Harlow, one sister, Helen Carroll; brother-in-law, Edward Kahn; and many who knew him as “Uncle Paul”. He leaves behind a host of friends and his special neighbors, Carroll and Margie Green.
Serving as pallbearers are David Hennigan, Dwain Aguillard, Don Gray, John Hester, Brant Green, David Jones, Jodie Campbell, and Milton Wisby.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Faith Quest at the First Baptist Church, 2030 US 171, DeRidder, LA, 70634.
