Parthenia Shade Douglas-Beal's Obituary
Parthenia Shade Douglas-Beal was the loving daughter of James H. Shade, Sr. and Julia Marguerite Mills Shade. She was born in Wiergate, Texas on January 1, 1942. She was known to many as Ms. DB and Peepsie.
After graduating from Tuskegee Institute with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing Education in 1964, she headed to California to pursue her Masters of Public Health in 1973. After living in California, Parthenia returned to Leesville to and began her professional career at Fort Polk in the Preventive Medicine Department, eventually becoming Chief, Occupational Health Section until her retirement in 2010.
She was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church since her childhood, under the leadership of Pastor M.W. Harrison and Pastor Joseph L. Garner. She was a member of the Adult Choir and a previous director of the Pastoral Care Committee. She was a member of many committees and boards throughout the Leesville community and had been involved in public service for her entire life.
She is preceded in death by her parents James H. Shade and Julia M. Shade, her siblings Myrtle Shade Williams, Cora Shade Wilson, James H. Shade, Jr., William H. Shade, Sr., June LaVerne Shade Coney.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her sisters Othella Shade Anderson of Houston, Gloria Shade Prescott of Durham, NC, and brother, Gene (Linda) Shade of Nashville, TN, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, colleagues, and church members.
Her loving demeanor and love of God, family, and community will always remain within our hearts. She was always rooting for her two favorite sports teams. The New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Lakers.
She will remain our sweetie pie.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 12:00 P.M. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 1210 MW Harrison St., Leesville, LA. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 12th from 11:00 A.M. until time of service at the church.
