Pansy, the daughter of John J. Pickering and Maggie Bond Pickering, was born on April 10, 1934 in Sugartown, LA. She passed away on Friday, December 01, 2017, at her home in Grant.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rev. Allan B. “A.B.” Johnson; one sister, Marjorie “Sis” L. Barker of DeRidder; and one brother, John “Jack” H. Pickering of Grant.
She is survived by her one daughter, Penny M. Johnson; one son, Ricky A. Johnson (Pam) of Grant; two grandchildren, Charles A. Johnson and Grant T. Johnson both of Grant; one sister, Gertude “Trudy” Hynes of Beaumont, TX; one half-brother, William E. Hughes, of Cappell, TX; sister-in-law, Walda F. Pickering, and sister-in-law, Sue R. Johnson, both of Grant, LA.
She was a member of Palestine Baptist Church. She was a faithful pastor’s wife for 21 years, standing by her husband, as he pastored Pine Grove Baptist Church, Pitkin, LA, Shiloh Baptist Church, Dry Creek, LA, and Maplecrest Baptist Church, Vidor, TX. She could make a fine biscuit! She made homemade biscuits before daylight every morning, to put in his lunch box when he worked in construction. She was a precious mother and friend. She loved her children and grandchildren. She loved to cook; work in her garden; quilt by hand; and go visit the Colorado Mountains. Even as cancer ravaged her body, she would calmly say “That’s God’s business”. She “fought the good fight, and finished the race”.
