Ozenuar "Zennie" Hinson Thomas' Obituary
Ozenuar “Zennie” Hinson Thomas died peacefully at the age of 86 on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at her home on Country Lane, DeRidder, attended by her husband, Gordon Thomas, who cared for her through her long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Born on October 8, 1929, in Rosepine, to Grover and Mae Hinson, she was the oldest daughter of eight siblings. Zennie learned early the value of hard work, determination and education which she passed on to her two children, Wayne Lamar Cooley and Gayla Marie Thomas Dawson.
Family and friends knew her to be passionate about all of her endeavors. Through the years, she worked tirelessly at her church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, Girls’ Auxiliary instructor, and Vacation Bible School teacher. Spending time with her grandkids, playing games like Scrabble, Canasta and rummy, traveling with her husband and church group were her favorite activities. Zennie also enjoyed praying and reading her Bible daily, as well as sewing, designing and decorating her home, canning and gardening.
Zennie is survived by husband, Gordon; daughter, Gayla; brother, Prentice Hinson; sister, Ray Self; grandchildren, Justin Barrett, Bradley Barrett, Caleb Cooley, Leslie Moore, and Norris Cooley; and five great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by son, Wayne; brother, Unuar Hinson; sisters, Merzelle Moses, Velda Moses, Willie Faye Carr, and Severia Rutledge.
Funeral services and visitations will be at Labby Memorial Funeral Home at 2110 Hwy. 171 S. DeRidder, LA 70634. The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 28, with visitation on Tuesday, September 27, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, September 28, from 9:00 a.m. until the service begins.
