Nilsa was the second of five children, born to Mr. and Mrs. Segundo Quintero in Panama City, Republic of Panama on March 5, 1935. They lived in the historic part of the city and attended St. Francis Catholic School. She graduated from Balboa High School and trained as a professional secretary. At the age of 18, she married her lifelong love, Troy G Deason from Pitkin, Louisiana, while he was a member of the US Army in Panama. They went on to have five children and lived in Fort Knox, Kentucky, and Fort Clayton, Panama until Troy’s retirement in 1969. In 1980, they moved to Marlow, La. to tend to Troy’s ailing mother. Nilsa became very active in the Catholic community at Fort Polk and Leesville. She was a Lay Eucharistic Minister, prison ministry, Ultreya member, Director for the Hispanic community relations for a period and remained involved with the Diocese. Her passion was for her family, friends and church. Her love for others was evident over the many years as she not only helped others but invited many to live in her home. The list of thankful friends and family is endless as she lived her faith in helping many. Once her husband, Troy, passed in 2005 she relocated to Shreveport, Louisiana, and Arlington, Texas where she spent these last fourteen years living with her children. Her life was a living example of her Catholic faith, unconditional love and most importantly, love for God.
