The life our momma lived was a full one, filled with adventure, sorrow and lots of love. Momma was a coal miner’s daughter born in a coal mining camp in eastern Kentucky. She had lung problems when she was a little girl and they didn't know if she would survive, but she did. I would say that's great since she left us to go home with the lord at the age of 88. She was one of 11 children. She sang gospel music on the radio when she was in high school, momma loved to sing. Momma wanted to be a nurse and was offered a full scholarship to go to nursing school. That was until my daddy came into her life. He was a soldier and he took her all over the world during his military career. She didn't have the degree but she nursed many of bruised knees, broken hearts and she took care of my daddy before he passed away. Momma was all about the red, white & blue, she loved our country, our flag and our soldiers. On her trips to Fort Polk she would drop off banana bread to the MP’s at the gate on post and fudge during the holidays. She loved laughing, baking, fishing, talking with family and friends. Just talking with her could lift you up. She believed if you have a bad day, tomorrow will be better. You work hard and you will reap the rewards. We want to acknowledge just some of the special people who have made an imprint on her heart. Miss Garnita, you were a sister to her, your family was her family. Miss Jerry, she valued her friendship with you and sharing the church pew with you and Miss Wanda. Miss Wanda, she loved your talks on the phone. Mr. Jerry you were always there just a phone call away. She was excited when you would come over to have BBQ ribs with her. Mr. Clifford & Miss Janice thank you for your care and concern, the calls to see how momma was. Ruby, Joe, Nicole, Chad, she loved talking with you all, said you were good people. Charis, you were sent by God to help. Your weekly visits this last year meant the world to her. Linda H., she loved your talks on your daily walk. These are just some of the people who have left an imprint on my momma’s heart. and I hope that she has left an imprint on yours because I know she has on ours. Thank you.
