Michael Jon Sommerhauser's Obituary
SFC Michael Jon Sommerhauser (retired U.S Army Infantry), 48, passed away at home of natural causes on Tuesday, April 7, 2020, Leesville, Louisiana.
Mike was born in Wichita, Kansas to Jon A Sommerhauser and Gail A. (Knight) Goetz on April 9, 1971. He is survived by his son, Colt Michael Sommerhauser of Niceville, FL; father Jon and JoAnn Sommerhauser of Flower Mound, TX; mother, Gail and Dick Goetz of Tyler, TX; half –brother, Eric Jon Sommerhauser of Denton, TX; nephew, William Jon Sommerhauser of Denton, TX and many beloved extended family members and friends. Mike served 20 years honorably in the U.S Army (1989-2009) with two tours of duty in Iraq, duties in Afghanistan (Battle of Tora Bora), Djibouti Africa; South Korea; Northern Warrior Training Center-Alaska; and awarded the Bronze Star Medal for exceptionally meritorious service while assigned as a mortar Platoon Leader in Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment while deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 17 June 2004 to 17 June 2005. His professionalism and dedication to mission accomplishment contributed immeasurably to the success of his unit. Actions are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army. After retirement, 20 July 2009, he worked as a Fire Analyst at Ft. Polk, LA Joint Readiness Training Center until his final promotion to heaven.
