Michael Gene King's Obituary
Michael Gene King, age 75, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, May 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Mike was born on March 8, 1950, in Lake Charles to his parents Ed and Kat King. He lived most of his life in Dry Creek where he graduated from East Beauregard High School. Mike went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture and Business from McNeese State University. He married the love of his life, Debbie, on August 3, 1973.
Mike and Debbie enjoyed raising their four children, of whom he was extremely proud, on the family dairy farm in Dry Creek, La. Later in life he obtained his HVAC certification and started King Air, where he helped many families in the community stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Mike loved camping with his wife. They visited campgrounds across Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Georgia and Arkansas, of which many were with his nieces and their spouses. Early in their marriage, he and Debbie spent weekends Country & Western dancing. He truly enjoyed going to the casino to play the craps tables and eat crab legs at the buffets. There was never an evening or Saturday morning where you couldn’t find him watching the Weather Channel, always worrying about a little rain getting on his fresh hay. A thunderstorm never had a chance of surprising Mike, as he was constantly watching the radar while relaxing in his chair.
Being on the farm riding his tractor was his therapy. Mike’s passion was his garden, but his pride and joy were his eight grandchildren. Their Papa rarely missed a ball game, school program, dance recital, or any chance he had to spend more time with them. Mike was a true family man who never met a stranger. He loved to brag about his children, their spouses and his grandchildren.
Mike was greatly admired and respected by all who knew him. He will be remembered as a loving husband, dad, Papa, brother, uncle and friend. Mike is survived by his wife of 51 years, Debbie; his children, Johanna Graishe (Shane) of Missouri City, TX and her children, Ella (13) and Ainsley (12); Kara Ferachi of Missouri City, TX and her children, Reagan (15) and Seth (13); Braden King (Leslie) of Dry Creek, La and his children, Collyn (21), Evan (15), and Ava (12); and Darryn King (Victoria) of Ragley, La and his son Grayson (1). He is also survived by his siblings, Edgar King (Sue) of Menlo, Ga and Pam Evans (Jerry) of DeRidder, La, as well as, a host of loving extended family and friends. Mike is preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the caring staff of Heart of Hospice and to his doctors and nurses at MD Anderson who took amazing care of him throughout his illness and final days.
