Mary L. Turner's Obituary
Mary L. Turner entered peacefully into rest on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 1 day, in Tomball, TX with her loving family by her side. Mary was born on Tuesday, July 24, 1934, in Dry Creek, LA to Alton Monette Lindsey and Thelma Spears Lindsey.
Visitation will begin Saturday, August 27, 2022, from 11:00 AM until the time of the funeral service which will begin at 2:00 PM, in Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Deridder. Interment will follow at the Dry Creek Cemetery in Dry Creek, LA. Funeral Services under the care and direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder.
Mary was a longtime resident of Dry Creek, LA, where she owned Turner’s Grocery and where she was known for generous spirit. She always had a pot of coffee ready for anyone who stopped by for a chat. She loved Jesus, her family, and her best friend, Louise. Later in life, she moved to Texas to be close to her daughter, and for the past year called Southern Knights Memory Care Home where she loved doing puzzles, play dominos, and bingo. It was playing bingo where she became known and the bingo queen. During her time there, she would help out with folding laundry and spending time with the residents. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving daughter, Lori Van Bemmelen and husband Todd of Tomball, TX; her sister, Lynette Simmons of Fairview, LA; her grandchildren, Brittney Erwin, Celia Hollywood, Samuel Diamond, Nicholas Van Bemmelen, and Alexander Van Bemmelen; her great-granddaughter, Beth Hollywood; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by parents, Monette and Thelma Lindsey; and her husband of 50 years, Clarence Turner, Jr.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers Todd Van Bemmelen, Samuel Diamond, Rick Reeves, and Jared Lopez.
