Mary Thigpen's Obituary
Mary Thigpen, 81, passed away September 16, 2024. Mary was born to LeRoy and Pearl Ables on September 20, 1942, in Nacogdoches, TX. She graduated from Anahuac High School in 1960 where she met Bill Thigpen and later married. Mary and Bill settled in Houston, TX where they raised their 3 boys. Together they were avid anglers who cherished their time at their lake house on Lake Sam Rayburn. Mary even fished in the Bass’n Gal Classic – the world’s premier bass fishing tournament for women. Mary retired as the Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police for Memorial Village Police Department. Upon retirement, Mary & Bill moved to his hometown of DeRidder, LA.
Mary is preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill. Her parents, LeRoy and Pearl as well as her two brothers, Roy and Kenneth Ables. She is survived by her sons - Mark (Benita) Thigpen of DeRidder, LA; David (Kay) Thigpen of Hull, TX and Harlan (Tracie) Hendricks of Houston, TX; sister – Betty (George) Thompson of San Diego, CA; grandchildren – Jeremy (Katy) Thigpen of Batson, TX; Brett (Tracy) Thigpen of Pearland, TX; Everett (Kristen) Thigpen of Pearland, TX; Dalton (Allie) Thigpen of Florence, AZ; Mary- Elizabeth Thigpen of Houston, TX; Jesyka Thigpen of Houston, TX and Haley (Jacob) Mello of Austin, TX; and great grandchildren – Dana, Devin, Sage, Blayne, Jacek, Michael, Hadleigh, Hayden, Baker, Leighton, Kasen, Jacob, Riloh & Rowan.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 10:00 AM until the time of the celebration of life which begins at 11:00 AM, at Labby Memorial Chapel in DeRidder, LA.
