Funeral services for Martin C. Fontenot, Sr., 72, of DeRidder, LA, will be held at 11 A.M., Thursday, December 31, 2009, in Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in DeRidder, LA, with Rev. Sam Burchard and Rev. Gary Archbold officiating. Friends may visit Wednesday, December 30, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m and on Thursday, December 31st from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Dry Creek Cemetery with Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder officiating. Mr. Fontenot passed away Saturday, December 26, 2009, in his residence.
A native of Jennings, LA, he had resided in Dry Creek for the past sixteen years. He was formerly a resident of California and Washington state for over forty years. He was retired from the oil production industry where he was a directional driller and in public relations. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corp and served in Korea during the Korean War. He attended Dry Creek Bible Church. He also made custom made cowboy boots, saddles and other leather goods.
Mr. Fontenot is survived by his wife, Ida “Libby” Fontenot of DeRidder; four sons, Marty C. Fontenot, Jr. of Hunnington Beach, CA, Stephen Fontenot of Black Hawk, SD, Michael A. Fontenot of Oman, and Jeffrey S. Fontenot of Hunnington Beach, CA; three brothers, Robert Fontenot of Fenton, LA, Murray Fontenot of Dry Creek, LA, and Roy Fontenot of Iowa, LA; one sister, Annette LaFleur of Lebleu Settlement, LA; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
