Marshal James Patton's Obituary
Funeral services for Marshal James Patton, 80, of Anacoco will be held at 10 am, Tuesday April 8th, at the East Leesville Baptist Church with Rev. Gil Arthur and Durhl Davis Officiating. Masonic graveside services and interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Leesville, with the pallbearers being his grandsons and nephews.
Friends may call from 5 – 9 pm, Monday April 7th in the funeral home and from 8:30 am until service tie in the church.
Marshal passed away Saturday, April 5th in the Byrd Regional Hospital in Leesville.
He was born in Many, LA and has been a longtime resident of the Vernon Parish Area. He formerly worked for Cain Ford Motor Company and then later retired from the Vernon Parish School Board as an Automotive Shop Teacher. He was a member of East Leesville Baptist Church and an ordained deacon. He was a past Master of Leesville Masonic Lodge No 240 F&AM and a past Worthy Patron of Esther Chapter No 26, Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the Leesville Civitan Club where he served as a past president. He served as a Leesville City Councilman for 12 years. He currently worked form the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office as an Instructor for the Alcohol and Drug Program.
He was thankful for the singing talent God gave him and he loved serving the Lord through the gospel music ministry. He was a founding member and bass singer of the Certain Sound Singers Gospel group for over 30 years until the group retired in 2007.
In his life, he found great joy in serving his Lord and his community, sharing a smile or laugh, and loving his family with deep devotion. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing his bounty with others. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and he will be greatly missed.
Marshal was preceded in death by his parents Daniel L. and Artie Brumley Patton, Sr.; Sister, Myrtis Veuleman and Brothers, Ira L. Patton and Daniel L. Patton, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Orelee Bridges Patton of Anacoco; son, Gary J Patton of Anacoco; daughter, Betty Patton Hinson and husband Mack of Anacoco; sister, Louise Pennington of Zwolle; Brothers Riley M Patton and Huey C. Patton both of Many; four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
The Patton family request that memorial donations be made to the East Leesville Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Marshal.
