Marjorie L. Nelson's Obituary
Marjorie L. Nelson, 97, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend to many, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025, in DeRidder, Louisiana. Born on December 27, 1927, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Marjorie's life was a testament to resilience and love. She was the daughter of Raymond and Mamie Smith Ney and grew up as one of seven children under the care of her devoted single mother.
Marjorie's journey through life was marked by her unwavering dedication to family and her passions for nature and creativity. A meticulous soul with an eye for beauty in every detail around her, she found joy in gardening—cultivating vibrant flowers that mirrored her warm spirit—and spent countless hours outdoors tending to her yard or working alongside her son at his Colorado home. Her love for photography allowed her to capture life's fleeting moments while painting brought forth another layer of expression that enriched both herself and those who admired her work.
In addition to nurturing plants and canvases alike, Marjorie had a zest for adventure; traveling to Colorado to spend the summer months at their cabin, stood out as one of the highlights of her life—a place where she could immerse herself in breathtaking landscapes that inspired awe within her heart. As meticulous as she was creative—nothing ever seemed out-of-place under Marjorie's watchful eye which extended beyond home decor into everything she touched throughout life’s journey—from quilts lovingly crafted stitch-by-stitch down generations—to jewelry pieces fashioned uniquely just so!
A woman deeply committed to family values, Marjorie is survived by son Roger Dale Nelson (Mary), daughters-in-law Randa Fox and Vickie Nelson; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews who will forever cherish their memories with this remarkable woman.
Preceded in death by Ronald Keith Nelson—the love of her life whom she shared seventy-four beautiful years—alongside sons Ronald Keith Nelson Jr. and Raymond Scott Nelson, brothers Robert Ney, John Ney, Harold Ney & Jimmy Ney; sisters Dorothy Manena & Eva Martin—Marjorie's legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched during hers.
Her passion extended beyond personal pursuits into joyful evenings spent square dancing with Keith—a dance floor filled with laughter echoing their deep connection—as well as instilling values rooted firmly within each generation following hers: kindness towards others coupled with diligence toward one's own endeavors.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5-8 PM at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder followed by additional visitation Wednesday from noon until 1 PM at First United Methodist Church where friends can gather together celebrating Marjorie's extraordinary life before services commence at 1 PM officiated by Pastor Laraine Waughtal. Burial will follow at Beauregard Cemetery ensuring Marjorie's eternal rest among familiar grounds dearer than any other place could ever be.
As we bid farewell today amidst tears mingled lovingly alongside smiles remembering all she's given us—we honor not only what has been lost but celebrate everything gained throughout our time together: lessons learned about perseverance wrapped tenderly inside stories told over generations past down like heirlooms waiting patiently until they find new homes once more…
