Margarette Ruiz's Obituary
On Tuesday, April 20, 2020 our daughter and sister Margarette R. Ruiz passed away in Dugway Proving Ground, Utah at the age of 38.
Margarette was born on July 31, 1981 in Long Beach, California to mother Kuan-Yin Ruiz of Renton, Washington and father Angel Del Real Verdin of Hemet, California.
Margarette is survived by many friends, her grandmother Rita Del Real Munoz of Nayarit Mexico, Other parents June and Nikisone Leoso of Leesville, Louisiana. She is also survived by her five brothers: Ricky Patelesio of Salem, Oregon; Trinidad Te'o of American Samoa; Chico/Franc Ruiz of Renton, Washington; Fidencio Verdin of Auburn, Washington; and Sergio Verdin of Auburn, Washington; Nephews Tasi and Tua Patelesio of Salem, Oregon; Francisco Te'o of American Samoa; Niece Sina Patelesio of Salem, Oregon.
Margarette comes from an extra-large family of 25 immediate uncles and aunts, nearly 100 first cousins, over 100 second cousins and growing. Lastly, and mostly important to her are her 9 fur baby brothers Koko, Snowy, Smokey, Sami, Saua, Speedy, Soaa, Turbo, Tama, and a fur baby sister Masi
Margarette graduated from Slover Mountain High School in Bloomington, Ca. in 2000. She attended San Bernardino Valley College where she majored in Liberal Arts and Communications and served as a student body senator. She moved to Louisiana in 2006 and volunteered for the Fort Polk Army Community Service. Shortly after she landed several jobs at the ACS (Army Community Service) as the Exceptional Family Member Program Assistant, and on to Information and Referral Intake Specialist, and Relocation Readiness Program Assistant. In December 2019, she was accepted as the Dugway Proving Ground's ACS Relocation Specialist.
Margarette had a passion for being a Girl Scout volunteer/leader at the DeRidder Troop 465. She prepared girls for a lifetime of leadership, success, and adventure. She also loved her dual culture from Mexico and Samoa. She loved to cook Mexican dishes such as Enchiladas, Fajitas, and Carne Asada. She also loved to show off her dancing skills from Samoa when she performs for the Fort Polk annual Asian Pacific Celebration.
Private family service is scheduled for Saturday, 02May20 at the Labby Funeral Home. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic the service will be limited to 10 selected guests.
