Louise Hammett Fletcher's Obituary
Louise Hammett Fletcher, 98, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2011, in Grand Cove Nursing and Retirement Center in Lake Charles, LA. Born in Ruston, LA, she grew up in Dry Prong, LA, where she was an All State Basketball player for Dry Prong High School. She was also known as "Papa’s Girl" in the garden. After graduating from high school she moved to Beauregard Parish where she resided for most of her life. She and her husband, Lewis O. "Red" Fletcher, were co-owners of Fletcher’s Feed Store in DeRidder and they later owned and operated Longville Lake and Recreational Center in Longville, LA. Louise loved to read and crochet. She was a member of Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church in Rosepine, LA.
She is survived by two daughters, Geraldine and husband Warren Smith of Duncanville, TX, and Mary and husband Rev. Louis Blankenbaker of Lake Charles, LA; daughter-in-law Abbie Terry Fletcher of Lake Charles, La.;eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 10:30 a.m., in Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in DeRidder, LA with Elder Bruce Ward and Rev. Louis Blankenbaker officiating. Burial will follow in Lewis Cemetery in DeRidder under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder. Visitation will be Friday, April 1, 2011, from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. and Saturday, April 2, 2011, from 9 A.M. until time of the service at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder.
