Lloydell Mullican's Obituary
“And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” -Micah 6:8
Born Lloydell Iles, she was brought into this world in the original log house quarters of the Wagnon Homestead in Dry Creek, Louisiana; (later known as “The Old Place.”) As a young girl, she spent her youth wandering through the piney woods of Dry Creek in a home full of lots of family, good food, love, and music. As a member of one of the pioneer families of Beauregard Parish, Lloydell was a proud 1954 graduate of DeRidder High School. She later went onto become a 1957 graduate of McNeese State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education; thus began her long life of serving others and impacting the lives of many children. While studying at McNeese, she was proud to be the first president of the women’s dormitory, and also prided herself in finishing her degree in just three years and two summers-all so that she could marry the love of her life that same year; her beloved husband of 60 years, John Earl “Jake” Mullican. Jake and Lloydell were married in the First Baptist Church of DeRidder, Louisiana on August 18, 1957. Together, they went on to build a family and a life that took them on many adventures as they strived daily to love and serve others just as Christ did. Lloydell faithfully served alongside Jake in all he did as a Baptist preacher and also while he was a student at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. She served in the church at the Warren Street Mission in DeRidder, taught 3rd and 4th grade Sunday School and VBS at First Baptist Church of Longville, was an active member and leader of WMU, started an after school tutoring program for the disadvantaged, was a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts organization, and was most notably both a strong member and President of the Beauregard Parish School Board. Lloydell cared deeply about education and adored each of her students, both at church and in her classroom at school. She devoted 20 years of her career as an elementary and special education school teacher in the parishes of Beauregard, Calcasieu, St. Bernard and Vernon. She lived her life according to her favorite Bible verse, Micah 6:8, and found it important to share the gospel with others any chance she got. When asked what her goal in life was, she stated that her goal in life was to love her grandkids until the day she died; and she did just that. Lloydell was a very loving and devoted mother, grandmother, teacher, Christian, friend, and most of all, servant for Christ for 86 long years.
Those left to cherish her memory and live out her legacy are her three children, Jeffery Mullican and Denise of DeRidder, Jess Mullican and Paige of DeRidder, and Jo Sarah Mullican Harrell and Jeff of Texarkana, TX.
Her nine grandchildren who were her pride and joy; Amy Mullican Harris and Hunter, Lauren Mullican, Hannah Harrell, William Harrell, Sarah Beth Mullican, Jessica Mullican, Jenna Mullican, Jacob Mullican, and Julia Mullican.
Her two surviving siblings, Bill Iles of Lake Charles, LA, and Jo Ann Iles Edwards of Jonesville, LA. Sister-in-law, Eddie Claire Mullican Kent of Mount Pleasant, TX, and sister-in-law, Mary Plott Iles of Dry Creek, LA.
