Linda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and Christian who devoted her life to God and her family. After graduating from DeRidder High School she married her High School Sweetheart, and devoted husband, LTC (Ret.) Gus Edgar Greene, Jr. As an Army Officer’s wife, she traveled the world making a loving home for her family of three sons regardless of where they were stationed—including such far off and unusual places as Tehran, Iran. Married for 59 years, Linda and Gus raised their three sons, Gus, Michael, and John and after 20 years of service to the nation finally retired in DeRidder, Louisiana. Possessing a true servant’s heart and known by all for her sweet nature and kindness, she served the community and military families wherever they were. Following the couple’s retirement she continued her service to others for 20 plus years where her warmth, smile and sympathetic ear were shared with those far beyond just her immediate family. She served the congregation of Temple Baptist Church as organist until her strength could no longer allow her to do so; assisted the sick and infirm at Beauregard Memorial Hospital as a “Pink Lady”; and faithfully cared for family, friends and neighbors with her love of cooking, sewing, quilting and crafting. A woman of faith and the rock around which the Greene family gathered, she led the family by example with her participation in prayer groups and other Church activities. Linda loved to read, pray, and spend time with her friends and family – there was always someone calling or visiting. She also had a warm and loving special place in her heart for her grandchildren who benefited from her example.
Mrs. Greene was preceded in death by her loving husband LTC Gus E. Greene, Sr. (Ret). And is survived by her sons and their wives, Gus and Shanda, Michael and Marsha, and John and Melissa; 18 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren; and her brother and sister-in-law-Gary and Margaret Crowe, and her sister Winkie Branch.
