Lena Oakes McRae's Obituary
Funeral srvices for Mrs. Lena Oak McRae, 99, of Leesville, will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville with Rev. Bobby Shirley officiating. Burial will follow in the Self Cemetery on Hwy 111 East in Leesville, under the dircetion of Labby Memorial Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held at the Labby Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 26th from 5:00 - 9:00 pm on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until service time.
Mrs. McRae was born on April 24, 1908 in Pickering, LA, the daughter of the late Mitchell Neal Oakes and Ida Jeane Okes She died on February 24, 2008 at Woodlands Care Center, Leesville, LA. She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church of Hornbeck. Miss Lena, as she was affectionately known, was a lifeong resident of Vernon Parish. She loved gardening and always worked hard to have a year round productive vegetable garden and to have her yard filled with beautiful flowers and shrubs. Sharing her vegetables and flowers with her family, friends and neighbors provided her great enjoyment and happiness during her entire life.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank L. McRae, her son, Warren L. McRae, her brothers, Guy Oakes, Harlesss Oakes and Neal Oakes and her sister,Gladys Oakes Kretchman.
She is survived by her sons, Milton McRae and wife Alice of Shreveport and Ted McRae and wife Errol of Baton Rouge; her daughter, Glenda McRae Coburn and husband Venton COburn of Leesville; her daughter-in-law, Gwendoyn McRae of Shreveport. She is also survvied by grandchildren, William McRae of Charlottesville, Virginia, Jana McRae of Sheveport, LA, Lisa McRae Fulp of Oakton, Virginia, Timothy McRae of Minden, LA, Derek Mcae of High Point, NC, Debra McRae Danielso, Patricia McRae and Molly McRae all of Baton Rouge and Yvette Coburn and Colette Cobrn Campagna both of Dallas, TX, In addition, she leaves 13 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, a large extended family and many friends.
