Lela Haymon Herrington's Obituary
Graveside services for Lela Haymon Herrington will be held on Thursday, April 29, 2021, at 10:00 A.M. in the Mt. Bethel Cemetery in Leesville, La with Rev. Morris Goins, Rev. Huey Haymon and Deacon J.D. Haymon officiating.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M till service time in the cemetery.
Lela was born January 12, 1932 near Birds Creek, in the artillery range, to Lonnie and Ernestine McKee Haymon. Her family, along with other families of the range left their homes, farms, churches, cemeteries and schools in 1940 by order of eminent domain for what is now Fort Polk, La.
She was a Christian and a member of the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. She worked for the Vernon Parish School Board as a cook for 10 years and was a homemaker. She especially loved to cook for her family and could grow the most beautiful roses.
She is preceded in death by her parents, nine brothers Elijah Haymon, Noah Haymon, Allen Haymon, Floyd Haymon, Harvey Haymon, Marvis Haymon, Oscar Haymon, Arthur Haymon, and Albert Haymon and one sister, Gracie Haymon Herring
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Billy Herrington of Leesville, LA.,, two sons, Ronnie Herrington of Leesville, La and Donnie Herrington and wife, Donnis of LaCamp, La., one grandson, Brian Herrington and wife Katelyn, one granddaughter, Melissa Hillman and husband Daniel, three great grandsons Caleb Hillman, Kaden Hillman and Gavin Hillman, one brother, Rev. Huey Haymon of Anacoco, La and a host of nieces and nephews and others that she made her family along the way.
Pallbearers will be Brian Herrington, Jimmy Haymon, Donald Haymon, Delmon Haymon, Rodney Haymon and Daniel Hillman.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jordan Harris, Caleb Hillman, Kaden Hillman and Gavin Hillman.
