Lawrence L. Martin affectionately known as “Danky” or “L.L” was a proud native of New Llano, Louisiana. He was born on September 16, 1952 to the late Charles and Maryetta Martin. At the age of 69 he peacefully went on to be with the Lord on July 13, 2022 in New Llano, LA surrounded by his love ones. He was taught at an early age to seek the Lord and he accepted Christ at New Willow Baptist Church under the leadership of the great late Rev. Dr. Harrison Fields, Sr.
Lawrence being a native of New Llano, Louisiana, received his education through the Vernon Parish School System, where he went on to graduate from Leesville High School with the Class of 1971. Prior to his graduation, he met the love of his life Abragail Simpson.
On May 26, 1973 Lawrence united in Holy Matrimony with Abragail Simpson. To this union 5 wonderful children were born and God blessed them with 4 additional wonderful children. Through his children, he blessed to gain the title of “PawPaw” and ‘Big Daddy” and later was blessed to be a great grandfather. Lawrence was a man who loved his family and his family loved and respected him. He raised his children with love, discipline, and a smile. He was a man whose smile could light up a room, and he could always make you laugh. He was a hard worker who provided for his family and instilled in his children to be hard workers and to provide for their families.
At an early age he began his employment with the GBI for several years. He then went on to start a career with the KCS railroad as a train breakman in 1977. Upon working full time for the railroad he later retired after 30 years. In 2014 he went to work as a bus driver for the Vernon Parish School System and worked until his retirement in 2022.
Although he appeared quiet at times, he always knew just the words to say to make you laugh. To truly know who he was, was to love him. One of his many great titles was to be called “Daddy” and “PawPaw”.
Our Husband, Father, Brother, Pawpaw, Big Daddy, Uncle, Cousin, and Friend leaves a legacy of love and memories never to be forgotten.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister.
