Mary Lynn, I am just now learning of Larry's death. So sorry to hear of this. You are in my prayers. Sincerely, Kaye Adams
I did not learn of Dr. Garrison's passing until this morning. He was such a kind, intelligent, and helpful educator at LSUS. I know that he will be greatly missed by all his former students in the Ed. Leadership program. He was my favorite professor because he had a heart! Last spring my mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and she spent over a month in the hospital dealing with a blockage caused by her tumor. Dr. Garrison was so understanding when and if I needed to miss class to be with her and my family. I'll never forget that. I wish I had known that he was struggling with cancer in that last month of classes. He is a strong man! I will be praying for his family. -Jenna Bolin (Thomas)
I first met Larry in 1979 when Tim introduced me to him; he was then band director at Dollarway High School. I remembered being impressed by the depth and breadth of knowledge he had, as well as his generous spirit. Twenty years later, I joined the 106th, and over time learned that Larry would prove to be one of the smartest, funniest and most well-rounded people I've ever met. His was a life well-lived.
Mary Lynn. I am truly sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Dr. Garrison was a very respected and knowledgeable professor, whom I will sincerely miss from the LSU-S staff. Your family will be in my prayers. Sincerely, Maggie Peairs & Christopher Bell
My heart is so heavy! I just found out! None of us knew that you were even sick. You hid that from us, your students, so well. Your strength is empowering! The lessons you taught us- the experience and wisdom you shared will live within all that you have taught (mentored) always. The class of 2012 sends our sincerest condolences to your family and friends and prays for their comfort! Always, Jo
I met Larry when I was 17 and a newly enlisted soldier in the 106th Army Band, Arkansas Army National Guard. Although a few years older, Larry and I became fast friends. Over the next 20 years, we would spend an enormous amount of time together. Effectively, Larry watched me grow up ... and had a hand in my formation. I am a different father, husband, friend and person than I would have been without Larry's influence. I owe him a lot. Rest in Peace Larry.
Larry Garrison was the best military friend I ever had. Had the situation ever been forced upon us, I would have trusted him with my life in a combat zone and known that I was in good hands. Fortunately for us our service only consisted of playing music for others who had been in combat zones and at that he was superb!! He will be missed as a soldier, as an educator and most of all as a friend.
I met Larry in the 106th Army Band in 1977. We became good friends, our kids are the same age and we shared lots of stories about raising them. He was a good man, a wonderful father. a talented musician and teacher and a great friend. I will miss him and keep his family in my thoughts and prayers.
