Larry David Smith's Obituary
Funeral services for Larry David Smith, of Hicks, Louisiana will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Castor Baptist Church on Leesville. Burial will follow in the Castor Cemetery in Leesville, LA.
Visitation will be held from 5 pm, Monday, December 19th, until service time in the church Tuesday.
Larry, the son of Grover and Avis Burns Smith was born on Oct 20, 1953, in Leesville, Louisiana. He passed away on Friday, December 16, 2011 in Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria.LA.
Larry was a lifetime resident of Vernon Parish and a 1971 graduate of Hicks High School. He began his career in Law enforcement with the Leesville City Police Dept and soon transferred to the Vernon Parish Sheriff office where he worked for 23 years with most of this serving as Chief of Detectives. During this time he trained and attended many law enforcement classes but was most proud of graduating from the F.B.I. Academy in Quantico VA. After leaving the Sheriff’s office he helped to teach and train officers with the International Policing Agency in Kosovo. He returned to Leesville and worked for Merchant and Farmers Bank as the loans collections officer and was recently promoted to Vice President. He was a member of Castor Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher.
Larry was a man of grace and character, tender hearted with an immeasurable love for his family and a proud paw paw and daddy. He was a friend to all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Grover Smith and brother, Olen Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Alice Keel Smith of Hicks, LA. One son and daughter in law; Chad and Tara Smith of Pleasant View, TN. One daughter and son in law: Candace and Erik Black of Ragley, LA. Mother: Avis Spurgeon of Leesville, LA. Brother and wife; Dale and Patty Smith of Waxahachie, TX. Sisters: Dorothy Spurgeon of Leesville and Mayva Jean and husband Wilbert Linscomb of Orange , TX. and Gwen and husband Bobby Vaught of Ark,Four Grandchildren; Dylan, Kinley, Addie and Tristan
