Our dear Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, LaMay Elda Wine Koehn, was born to Frank and Katherine (Mastre) Wine on December 31, 1930. Her loving Savior gently called her home in the early hours of October 26, 2021, with family by her side. She answered the call of God at the age of nine years and converted. She was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite by Minister Jesse Johnson on November 8, 1943. She remained faithful to her vows to the end.
She was the middle child in a family of three. As a young teenager, her only brother passed away at the age of 13, which gave Mother a lasting impression that Heaven is real.
Mother was joined in marriage to Allen M. Koehn on December 4, 1949, at Rich Hill, Missouri. This union was blessed with two sons and three daughters. They had 37 years together, sharing their joys and sorrows.
In December 1959, Dad and Mother, with three young children, were in a car accident at the Greenland Church Road corner in Manitoba. Their son, Merlin's injuries left him permanently disabled. Mother faithfully loved and cared for him for many years. On September 27, 1973, their oldest son Donald was tragically taken, leaving Mother with a lifetime sorrow.
Our Dad passed away in 1986, which left Mother very lonely. Mother coped with her lonely hours doing crafts. She was a very resourceful person, making playhouse furniture and other things. She spent many contented hours at her sewing machine, making items she loved to give away.
She was joined in marriage to Lester Koehn on September 19, 1993. Mother loved Lester's children and grandchildren as her own. They had 17 happy years together.
Those left to cherish her memory are one son, Merlin Koehn of Moundridge, Kansas, Three daughters, Carol and Ray Schmidt of DeRidder, Louisiana, EldaMae and Gary Toews of Burns, Kansas, Starla and Vernie Wiebe of Barron, Wisconsin, one stepson, Jerry and Lavonna of Almena, Wisconsin, and one stepdaughter Lynelle and Maynard Millsap of Almena Wisconsin, 20 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her parents, one brother, and one sister; her husband Allen Koehn, one son Donald Koehn; her husband Lester Koehn, and one granddaughter Rosalie Koehn.
LaMay's family wishes to express their gratitude for the thoughtfulness and kindness of friends and relatives, witnessed in words, deeds, and prayers. A special thank you to Brighton Bridge Hospice and their Staff, who tenderly attended to her needs.
