Kenneth Wayne Smith's Obituary
Kenneth Wayne Smith, affectionately known as “KW,” age 78, of LaCamp, Louisiana, passed away to his Heavenly home on June 5, 2026. KW was born on February 23, 1948, in Leesville, Louisiana, to Matt E. and Willie Mae Smith.
He was a proud graduate of Hicks High School, Class of 1966.
KW lived life simply. It didn’t take much to make him happy, and he truly enjoyed every day the Lord had made.He spent 47 years beside his loving wife as they raised three children together. He had many accomplishments throughout his lifetime, but he was most proud of the family they created. A true family man he was. He was proud to be Dad, but he was real proud to be “Pawpaw.”He had a special talent when it came to carpentry. He enjoyed building houses and taking on any project that would lead to a lengthy undertaking that somehow ended up involving the whole family—whether they signed up for it or not.KW never met a stranger and was never too proud to be anyone’s friend.
He never ran out of things to talk about or tall tales to share. He was full of love and silly jokes that would leave your sides hurting and your eyes watering from laughter. You never left his home hungry or worried. He was the fixer of all things. He could spend all of his days in the garden, planting every vegetable known to man or tending to any animal that crossed his path. Oddly enough, they always seemed to find their way to him. From raising hogs to shelling peas, he loved every minute of it.When he was able, there wasn’t a chance he’d miss an opportunity to be in the woods. Whether it was a deer, rabbit, or squirrel, none stood much of a chance if they crossed his path. The sound of a pack of hounds running lit a fire in his soul.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Matt and Willie Mae Smith; his wife of 47 years, Janet Marie Smith; his brother, George Smith; his daughter-in-law, Stacey Lyn Smith; and his great-granddaughter, Kyndal Rain Dowden.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Regina Fee (Jeffrey) of LaCamp, Louisiana; Kendall “Bubba” Smith of Leander, Louisiana; Brandon “B” Smith (Kim) of Kolin, Louisiana; and bonus daughter, Helena “Pooh” Smith.
He is also survived by his brother, Danny Jo Smith (Pam) of Hicks, Louisiana. His grandchildren include Aaron Delrie (Lindsay), James Smith, Colton King (Sydney), Shyla Fiesel (Chris), and Stormi Smith (Charlie). His greatest joys were his great-grandchildren: Shelby, Kreek, and Ruby Smith; Amos and Emmie Lou Delrie; Hayzel King; Roland Dowden; Croix, Caze, Avery, Emery, and Landry Fiesel. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

We find peace in knowing that KW is once again walking hand in hand with the love of his life. And if Heaven has a garden to tend and stories to tell while sitting on the tailgate of a hunting truck, then he’s right where he belongs.
