Kayla Schmidt's Obituary
Kayla Gwen Schmidt was born in Dodge City, Kansas, on May 27, 1998. She and her brother Waylon came to us, Gerald and Carla Schmidt, in October of 2002. They became our own daughter and son on April 29, 2003. Kayla passed away on December 31, 2020, with us, her Dad and Mom, by her side.
Kayla started school in Montezuma, Kansas. Halfway through second grade she moved with her family to DeRidder, Louisiana. She never missed a single day of school in her life. Kayla was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on May 13, 2012.
Kayla had a bright and cheerful personality and wanted to take care of everyone. She loved babies and cared for her younger siblings like a second mom. Cooking was another love, and she was very efficient in the kitchen. She didn’t seem to know a stranger, and her contagious laughter will be missed by all. Kayla was our songbird; we loved to hear her sing. She always had a song on her lips, even in the dark patches of her life.
Those left to cherish her memory are her parents, Gerald and Carla Schmidt, DeRidder, Louisiana; her brothers, Waylon and Levi, Houston, Mississippi; little sisters Heidi and Madison and little brother, Jevon, of the home; sisters Sabrina Olivarez, Wichita, Kansas, and Angelena Copeland, Tecumseh, Nebraska, one nephew Benzley Kai, her grandparents, Jima Zimmerman, and Kenneth and Anita Schmidt, all of Montezuma, Kansas, and many Uncles, Aunts, and cousins.
Services Pending under the care of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder.
