Julia Lam McDonald's Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Julia Lam McDonald, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left this world on August 27, 2025, at the age of 61. Julia was born on November 25, 1963, in Harrisburg, Virginia, to Edwin Ralph and Alice LaVerne Brown Lam, who preceded her in death.
Julia’s journey through life was characterized by strength and resilience. She faced many challenges but always emerged with a spirit that was both funny and determined. Her unwavering love for her three sons—Kevin Rains (and wife Cassie) of Anacoco, LA, Brian Rains of Many, LA, and Rodney Rains (and wife Bryana) of Hornbeck, LA—was the cornerstone of her life. Julia was also a devoted stepmother to Valerie Phillips of DeQuincy, whom she cherished as her own daughter.
In addition to her sons and stepdaughter, Julia found immense joy in her role as a grandmother. She adored her grandchildren, Zachery, Kaiden, Ryleigh, Braxton, Alaina, Rhett, Shelby, and Dillon, who brought her immeasurable happiness and pride. She is also survived by her sister, Anita Lam and brothers, William Lam and Edwin Lam.
Her love for her family was evident in everything she did, and her legacy will live on through the lives she touched.
Julia was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 18 years, Ellis McDonald, along with her brothers, Roy Lam and Emery Lam.
She had a unique ability to turn challenges into opportunities for love and growth, and she faced life with a fierce determination that inspired all who knew her.
The celebration of Julia’s life will take place on September 1, 2025, at 12:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Hornbeck with Bro. Jason Lupo officiating. Those who knew her are invited to join in honoring her memory and the countless ways she enriched our lives. A visitation will be held on Monday, September 1, 2025 from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the church. Burial will follow in the Prewitt Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are; Aaron Rodgers, Zachery Rains, Doug Insinger, Robert McLain, Tony Lam, and Dusti Parker.
Throughout her life, Julia exemplified love, strength, and a remarkable spirit. She lived life fully and taught her loved ones the importance of resilience and joy. Though she faced many hardships, her unwavering love for her children and grandkids was what kept her going. Julia Lam McDonald will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
