Joseph Hall Toler Jr.'s Obituary
Joseph Hall Toler, Jr, 69, of DeRidder, Louisiana, passed away on 21 January 2024.
Visitation will be Monday, March 11, 2024 from 4:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Born on the 20th of April 1954 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Joe Toler was the second child of Fred and June Toler. He is survived by his siblings Diane, Jeff, Dan, wife Gudrun, sons Joseph, and Benjamin, and eight grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.
Joe played trumpet in the Oakcrest High School marching band and continued to play in the Honor Guard after enlisting in the United States Army. He was known for his dedication to selfless and faithful service to the nation, local community, and to God. Joe was a proud American soldier. As a dedicated warrior, and First Sergeant, he lived by the army values – always placing the mission first, never accepting defeat, and never leaving a fallen comrade behind.
Upon retiring from military service, Joe chose to continue serving the local community as a Deputy Sheriff. He executed his duties with integrity, courage, and profound respect for the rights of every individual. Joe was disciplined, tough, and unwaveringly committed to his family and faith.
Joe’s sense of purpose and service called him to pastoral care in the New Apostolic Church. Being a minister, he preached and taught the word of God, providing spiritual guidance and wisdom. His love, compassion, and forgiveness reflected the core teachings of the faith as he strove to exemplify and promote these qualities in his ministry.
In 1974, Joe married Gudrun Hannelore Eyssen and together they built a life full of joy and cherished memories. Their union was blessed with three children, Jennifer, Joseph, and Benjamin, and eight grandchildren, who were the source of immense pride and joy. Joe loved hanging out with family, reading, and golfing. He may have sliced it on a par three but seeing that he was with family or close friends, he would say it was still a great day. Joe always enjoyed a good joke and had an open ear for great conversation.
The family will honor Joe’s desire for a private funeral to celebrate his life. Friends are invited to join in remembering and honoring his legacy by making donations in his name to either charity shown below in lieu of flowers:

The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
My God, my strength, in whom I will trust;
My shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
