Jon William Hosford Jr's Obituary
Jon was born on August 17, 1943 in Portland, Oregon to his parents, Jon William Hosford, Sr. & Doris Clark Hosford. He passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 in Leesville.
He proudly served in the United States Army from October 3, 1960 – May 1, 1983. He severed in a tour of Vietnam from August 1965- August 1966 and August 1969- September 1970. He retired as a First Sargent at Fort Polk. He was a life-time member of VFW 3106 and American Legion. He worked for the Department of Defense Range Control for 20 years.
The many awards Jon received is Bronze Star, Meritorious Service, Jungle Expert, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Vietnam Campaign, RVN AF Honor 1st Class-awarded by the South Vietnamese Army, RVN Gallantry Cross with a Bronze Star-awarded by the South Vietnamese Army in recognition of deeds of valor or heroic conduct while in combat with the Army,(this is the highest award the RVN Army could give a foreign soldier), Expert Rifle Marksman, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal and Army Combat Infantry Badge.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, which he holds multiple hunting records. He was a loving husband and father of three.
Jon is preceded in death by his parents, daughter; Angel Bush.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife; Susie Hosford, sons; Jon W. Hosford III and wife Jeanette Hosford of Plainfield, VT, James Hosford of Panama, three grandchildren; Stacey Mason and husband Michael Brich of Santa Cruz, CA., Mary Hosford of Orlando, Fl., Cole Bush and wife Brooke Bush of Starkville, MS., brothers; Sven Hosford and Olin Hosford.
The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family ask to make a donation in his name to America Cancer Society.
