Johnnye Mae Arnold's Obituary
On Monday, December 6, 2010, Mrs. Johnnye Mae Ingalls Arnold slipped the bindings of this earthly realm and joined her late husband, Lollie Arnold, and a host of family and friends in their celestial home with her Lord and Savior and the Heavenly Father.
Ms. Johnnye was born September 19, 1912 in Stille, LA. Seventy-seven of her ninety-eight years were spent at 174 Arnold Road in Temple, LA. With her birth predating WWI, she saw many climatological, geophysical, and political seasons come and go. All this information was incorporated into her vast knowledge of the world around her.
This diminutive southern lady exhibited the graciousness of such a person
that was born and reared in earlier years of the South. Included was an
expansive heart that was open to all who visited her. She was well-read and
highly literate with a wide, extensive knowledge of various subjects which she was overjoyed to discuss in a gentle, humble fashion with anyone who wished to discuss with her. She loved everyone, always saw their good points, and “never met a stranger.”
She received a teaching certificate from Louisiana Normal College at
Natchitoches and shared her knowledge as a school teacher for many years. She went on to serve as Postmistress at Temple, LA for a number of years. During her years spent at home, she maintained a positive, healthy outlook and kept up-to-date with local, state, national and world events until her final few days on earth.
In her younger years, she loved to farm, hunt and garden. Later, she took
up quilting as a hobby and enjoyed making quilts for all her nieces and
newborn babies. Ms. Johnnye loved having company, especially the young people from church who would come to sing and spend time with her. She loved receiving cards from family and friends and would display them in her home to share with all who came to visit. Another enjoyable pastime was watching every episode (uninterrupted) of “Wheel of Fortune.”
Preceding her in passage from this earthly realm include her parents,
Francis Marion and Mary Catherine Boyd Ingalls; her husband, Lollie Arnold; brothers Charles M., Francis “Andy”, George W., James McKinley, and Earl Ingalls; one sister, Emma Ingalls Hughes, and nephews A. D. Delrie and Jerry Simmons. Aunt Johnnye’s memory will also be closely held by her nephew, the son she never had, James Earl Ingalls, and nieces Sally Ann Ingalls Nelson, Barbara Simmons, her loving caretaker, friend, and next-door neighbor, plus Rosemarie Ingalls who was always by her side through life like a daughter. Also her grandson Jerry Earl Ingalls.
Homegoing services will be held Wednesday December 8, 2010 at 1:00 PM, Comrade Baptist Church, Temple, LA with Rev. Terry Ward & Lou Gordon officiating. Interment will be in Fellowship Cemetery, Hineston, LA where her final resting place will be beside her beloved husband, Lollie.
