Funeral services for Johnnie Floyd “John” Craig, Sr., 91 of DeRidder, LA, will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 21, 2017 in Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in DeRidder, LA with Rev George Lee Glass officiating. Burial will follow in Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder. Visitation will be held Friday, January 20, 2017, from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. and Saturday, January 21, 2017 from 9 A.M. until time of the service, all at the funeral home. Mr Craig passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017, in his residence.
“John” was born November 28, 1925 to Harm D. and Bertha Hanner Craig in Wolf City, TX. During WWII he joined the U.S. Navy serving on the U.S.S Indiana as a Gunners Mate. He later joined and retired from the U.S. Army and served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After his military service and retirement, he worked in the oilfield as a dispatcher from which he also retired. He has lived in DeRidder since 1965 and was a member of Grace Church in DeRidder. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and “tinkering” with vehicles. He also loved reading Louis Lamar westerns.
He is survived by three sons, Jerry Craig of Huntsville, AL, Bill Craig (Kay) of Pensacola, FL and Johnnie Craig Jr (Charlotte) of DeRidder, LA; brother, Marion Wayne Raney (Helen) of Sherman, TX; sister-in-law, JoAnn Johnson of Houston, TX; brother-in-law Jerry Johnson (Judy) of Sulphur, LA; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of sixty years, Dorothy, sister, Betty and grandson, Brandon Craig.
