John Hyman Self's Obituary
Funeral services for John Hyman Self, 85, of Hornbeck, Louisiana will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, April 8, 2013, at the First Baptist Church in Hornbeck with Bro. Jack Bell and Bro. Bill Hines officiating. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 7, 2013, from 4 pm - 9 pm, and on Monday, April 8th, from 8 am until service time in the church.
John, the son of John and Allie Dowden Self was born December 18, 1927, in Barham, LA. He passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013, in Alexandria, LA.
Hyman graduated from Anacoco High School in 1945 and LSU in 1949. He received his Masters + 30 in Agriculture from Stephen F. Austin. He was a Teacher and Principal at Hornbeck High School for thirty three years. After retirement from the School Board he went to work at the Vernon Parish Health Unit as a Sanitarian for 12 years. Mr. Self was a Deacon and member of First Baptist Church of Hornbeck and member of the Anacoco Masonic Lodge. He loved to farm, raise a garden, hunt and fish.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy McConathy Self of Hornbeck; daughter, Debbie & Carlos Arrambide of DeRidder, LA; half-sister, Julie Self of Anacoco, LA; grandson, Jason & Cristalle Arrambide of Houston, TX; great grandchildren, Dreux Michael Arrambide & Avery Grace Arrambide; his beloved dog Bubba, and a host of other family and many friends.
