John Newbern Rose's Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Newbern Rose, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who left this world on December 26, 2024, at 74. John was born on December 2, 1950, in Fort Hood, Texas, to John Oakley Rose and Mary Jack Newbern. He lived a life full of passion, creativity, and love, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
John proudly served in the U.S. Navy for nine years, achieving the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class. His commitment to service and dedication to his country were qualities that he carried throughout his life, embodying the values of honor and integrity. After his military service, John returned to civilian life, where he channeled his energy into his many talents and interests.
A master model shipbuilder and an avid seaman, John deeply admired the ocean. His love for the sea was matched only by his passion for woodworking, where he crafted beautiful pieces with skill and precision. John was also an accomplished artist, expressing his creativity across various mediums. His presence filled any room, drawing people in with his warmth and charisma. A connoisseur of good food, he relished life's simple pleasures, often sharing meals with family and friends.
In 1988, John married the love of his life, Sally Morris Rose, and together, they built a beautiful life in Leesville, Louisiana. Their 36-year marriage was a testament to their unwavering love and devotion to one another. John took immense pride in his family, and his legacy will continue through them.
He is survived by his wife, Sally Morris Rose; his sons, Brian Rose (Catie) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Ian Kramar of New Orleans, Louisiana; and his cherished granddaughters, Makenzie and Kimberly. John is also survived by his brother, Robert Rose of Grapevine, Texas, and his sisters, Ann Mclaughin of Denton, Texas, Peggy Aquinaldo of Pilot Point, Texas, Robin Stoner of Splendora, Texas, Susie Makovy of Cypress, Texas, and Amy Rose of Grapevine, Texas.
John was preceded in death by his father, John Oakley Rose; his mother, Mary Jack Newbern; his beloved son, Michael Rose; and his sister, Lynne Beard. Each of these losses shaped John's life, and he cherished the memories of his loved ones deeply.
A funeral service will be held at the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery on January 6, 2025, at 1:30 PM, where family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate John's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Lions Camp at lionscamp.org/donate, supporting the charitable work that embodies John's spirit of giving and community.
As we mourn the loss of John Newbern Rose, we also celebrate a well-lived life rich with love, artistry, and the joy of family. He will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched. Rest in peace, dear John, and thank you for the memories that will live on in our hearts.
