John Reed's Obituary
Funeral services for Retired US Army SFC John Reed, Jr. 82, of Leesville, Louisiana will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, at the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville, the burial will follow at the West Louisiana Veterans Cemetery at Fort Polk with full military honors.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 7th from 5 pm until 9:00 p.m., and then Wednesday from 8 am until service time in the funeral home.
He was the son of John I. and Flossie Reed was born March 7, 1931 in Indiana. He departed from us on January 3, 2014 at the St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, LA.
He was preceded in death by his parents 2 brothers and 4 sisters
He retired as a SFC (E-7) from the US Army after 21 years of service. He served one tour in Korea, two tours in Vietnam and multiple tours in Germany he was awarded The Bronze Star. After his military career he then worked and retired from Fort Polk Civil Service as a Telephone worker/lineman in 1986.
John loved life and was just easy going, loved to hunt and fish. However, his Passion was spending time with his grandchildren and “Oh how he loved to tell stories of Day Gone Bye.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Hildegard F (Bartsch) Reed; his children, Luis A and husband William (Bill) Hyatt of Hornbeck, Doreen R and husband Houston (Del) Deaton of Spiro, OK and John R and wife Belinda Reed of Anacoco; one brother, Charles Reed of Kent, WA; he was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
The family is requesting that memorial donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans Association.
