Mr. Pourteau was born on January 2, 1930 in Port Arthur, Texas to his parents John & Bessie Baggett Pourteau. He passed away on Friday, February 7, 2020 at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, LA.
John was a hard worker and had no tolerance for laziness. He spent his whole life working. He was a contractor for the rail road in his younger years, bush hogging and mowing the rail way. He worked for a time offshore and when he was home he would drill water wells. He served for 12 years on the Allen Parish Police Jury. He even owned an airplane and would fly over surveying high lines. He worked as a cathodic protection specialist, and upon Mrs. Faye’s retirement from the postal service, she would work with him for 5 years until his retirement. After retirement he began woodworking and built many beautiful pieces of furniture for his family and friends. He was a faithful member of the Hicks United Pentecostal Church, never missing a service unless health kept him away. His love of family was unconditional. He was most happy when surrounded by as many family members as possible.
