John Wayne Mayo's Obituary
Funeral services for John Wayne Mayo will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 8, 2018 in the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville with Rev. Jon Welch, Rev. Mark Christian, and Rev. John Burns officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Leesville.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 7, 2018 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm at the funeral home.
John Wayne Mayo, 80 of Leesville LA passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2018 surrounded by family. He was born January 12, 1938 to Fred Mayo and Eva (Townsley) Mayo. He graduated from Leesville High School in 1956 and was a member of the football and baseball team. He joined the US Navy in 1957 and served his time on the USS Caliente. On June 25, 1964 he married his beloved wife Betty Sue Mayo of Alto, Texas. He was a family man raising (6) children with his loving wife 55 years. Wayne was employed as a construction/painter for 26 years and also did Security at the sawmill for 10 years. He enjoyed working in the community and visiting with friends and family. He also enjoyed spending quality time with his siblings, nephews, and nieces. Anyone who knew Wayne knew he was an avid LSU fan. He lived purple and gold! He spent most of his weekends watching LSU football grilling listening to Elvis and enjoying family time. He would make every game memorable and enjoyed listening to Jim Hawthorne on the radio. He will be missed by all and his infectious smile and laughter will be forever in our hearts. One memory and song he forever instilled in our hearts by Elvis he did it “My Way!”
He was preceded in death by his Parents: Fred & Eva Townsley Mayo; His Brothers: Ted Mayo, Frank Mayo and Buck Mayo; His Sisters: Ruby Mayo and Aliene Larney.
Wayne is survived by: His wife of 55 years: Betty Mayo of Leesville, La; His Children: Sandra Mayo Kapotsy (George) of Leesville, Kellie Mayo Jefferies (Mike) of Leesville, Barbara Sharp of Lufkin, TX, Glenda Welch (Charles) of Leesville, Nancy Jackson (Jay) of Roseville, CA, and James Bo Hollingsworth (Cindy) of Fort Worth, TX; His Brother: Ray Mayo (Nancy) of Scott, LA; His Sister: Dumpy Moore of Leesville, LA; Sister In Law: Marsha Mayo of Leesville. 17 Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren
