John Edward Cryer's Obituary
Funeral services for John Edward Cryer, 70, of Leesville, Louisiana will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 12, 2010 at Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville with Monsignor Salvatord Collota and Rev. Wallace Palmer officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Leesville. The services are under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be held from 5 pm - 9 pm, Saturday, Dec 11th and then 9 am until service time in the funeral home Sunday, Dec 12th. A Rosary will be recited Saturday, at 7:30 PM in the funeral home.
Edward, the son of J. T and Thelma Thornton Cryer, was born July 23, 1940 in Leesville. He graduated from Leesville High School in 1958, and on April 23, 1960 , he married his high school sweetheart, Annie Rose Wilson. They had three sons together, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past April.
Edward was retired from Holsum bakery after more than 30 years of service. He worked as a distributor and as a supervisor. For over 20 years he owned and operated Cryer’s Sports. He was a member of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
Edward was an avid sports fan. While residing in Shreveport, he started Westwood Athletic Clubs, and was president of the Woodlawn High School Booster Club. He devoted his life to watching first his sons, and then his grandchildren participate in sports.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents J. T. and Thelma Cryer and his mother and father in law Connell and Angelina Wilson.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Annie Rose Cryer of Leesville; Children, Charles and Kristie Cryer of Natchitoches, Johnny and Susan Cryer and Joseph “Bo” and Cheri Cryer all of Leesville; 12 grandchildren; one brother Elmo Cryer of Seiper; brothers and sisters by love and marriage, Bill and Florence Endris of Leesville and Charles and Nancy Wilson of Hahnville, LA; Aunt, Odessa Haymon of Leesville and Ruby Thornton of DeRidder; Uncle, Paulis Thornton of Tyler, TX.
The Cryer family wishes to extend a special Thank You to Dr. Greg Lord and Dr. Matthews and to the Byrd Regional ICU Department. The Cryer family has requested that Memorial Donations be made to the Grace Home in Alexandria.
