Deacon John Lee Cole Sr. was born on January 10,1946 in Batesville, Mississippi (Panola County). His parents, the Late Leroy Cole and Leonia Bradford Cole's union had a total of 12 siblings and 3 preceded him in death Eugene Cole, Mary Cole Nash, Danny Ray Cole and granddaughter Tasha Cole.
In 1965, he moved to Waterloo, Iowa and from there he joined the United States Army. He met his wife, Bobbie Zeno better known as Beverly Zeno in 1969. From their union, 4 children were born Debbie, John, Michael and Cedric.
In 1990, there was a revival in Norfolk, Virginia that he attended, and his life was never the same. He got saved and filled with the Holy Ghost at the New Hope Church of God in Christ. He then joined Johnson Temple Church of God in Christ in the same year under the leadership of Superintendent Maurice Johnson. He became an usher and everyone he met he greeted them with a smile. He then was ordained as a deacon and worked in many capacities in the church as well as in the community from cleaning the church, mowing the grass, cooking in the fellowship hall, serving and delivering food in the community. He was known for making his famous "melt in your mouth" buttermilk biscuits and those sweet potato pies. He was a jack of all trades; worked as a mechanic and took a leadership role over the transportation ministry.
The highlight of his life was driving. Driving was his ministry and gave him so much joy. He took patients, family, and members of the church to wherever they needed to go. He was very punctual, always on time. When he was ready to go, he meant it. The times, which were many, he would transport the pastor; he would always say “Aint Nothing but A Word.” He was never too tired to serve. He had so many words of expressions but just to name a few “You Don’t Hear Me,” “I Can’t Call It,” “Let It Bump,”
