Jimmy F Rykard's Obituary
Jimmy F. Rykard entered peacefully into rest on Monday, March 28, 2022, at the age of 84 years, 7 months and 12 days, at his home in DeRidder, Louisiana with his family by his side. Jimmy was born on Monday, August 16, 1937 in Lowndes County, Georgia to Dan E. and Missouri Kent Rykard.
Visitation will begin Thursday, March 31, 2022, from 10:00 AM until the time of the service which will begin at 11:00 AM, at First Baptist Church of DeRidder, located at 2030 HWY 171 N DeRidder, LA, with Rev. Jerry Masters and Rev. Steve Graves officiating. Interment will follow at the Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Funeral Services under the care and direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder.
Jimmy grew up around the Valdosta, GA area where he met and married the love of his life Anne Martin. They moved to the DeRidder area in 1969 and called it their home. He went to work at the Boise Cascade Paper mill and worked there until his retirement in 2001.
Jimmy loved the outdoors. He loved to garden and loved to share his vegetables with his neighbors, especially the widows of the community. He always made sure that his yard was well kept. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon of the church. He served and volunteered his time to the Gods Food Box where he served as a board member. He will be dearly missed by all those that knew him.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Anne Rykard of DeRidder; son, Marty Rykard and wife Robin of Farmerville, LA; daughter, Joy Marshall and husband Donnie of DeRidder; daughter-in-law, Shawn Petrie of Broussard, LA; sister, Rachal Gill of Live Oak, FL; brother-in-law, Louis Slater of Shallotte, NC; three grandchildren, Dedria Phillips and husband Matt of Yuma, AZ, Ethan Rykard of Burnice, LA, and McKenzie Pittman and husband Richie of Downsville, LA; three great-grandchildren, AnnaBelle Phillips, Steven Phillips, and Thomas Pittman; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. D. E. Rykard; son, Walter Rykard; sister, Evelyn Salter; 9 half brothers and sisters.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Tim Cooper, Danny Harkreader, Ethan Rykard, Richie Pittman, David Ludolph, and George Fontenot.
Those honored to serve as honorary pallbearers are the deacons of First Baptist Church of DeRidder.
