Jewell Frankie Chapion Cunningham's Obituary
Jewell Frankie Champion Cunningham was born September 11, 1924, in DeRidder, LA, to Mary Ellen Snell Champion and John Franklin Champion. She passed from this life on July 16, 2013. Jewell was a life-long resident of DeRidder and retired after 40 years as owner/manager of Champion’s Jewelers, a business her parents established on Washington Street in downtown DeRidder in 1920. She was married to Russell Revere Cunningham, and they had three children; John, James and Linda. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a charter member of Visions Church of DeRidder. She was preceded in death by her husband Russell and by her daughter Linda Cunningham Edmonds. She is survived by two sons, John R. Cunningham and Karen of DeRidder, and James H. Cunningham of Kilgore, TX; by five grandchildren, Kari Ifland and Mark, Kelli Broocks and Mike, Danna Denton and David, Natalie Lord, and Ty Edmonds and Kathryn; and by ten great grandchildren, David, Cassie, Cara, Jakob, Kalob, Braddock, Jackson, Reagan, Champ, and Hadley.
Visitation will be held at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, from 5PM until 8 PM and a memorial service will be held Thursday, July 18, 2013, at 10 AM at Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Kari Cunningham Ifland officiating. Burial will be at Beauregard Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder, LA.
Jewell’s sweet spirit and unselfish nature were a blessing to all who knew her. Memorials may be made to the Beauregard Agape Community Clinic in DeRidder or Visions Church in DeRidder.
