Jewel Perkins King's Obituary
Jewel King, 83, of DeRidder, LA, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2011, in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2011, at
11 A.M. at Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder with Brother Joseph Alexander and Brother Jay Alexander officiating. Interment will follow in Beauregard Cemetery, DeRidder, LA, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder. Visitation will be held Friday, May 27, 2011,
from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
Mrs. King was born on November 7, 1927, to Norvella Radford Perkins and Dempsey Perkins in DeRidder, LA. She was a native and lifelong resident of DeRidder, LA. She retired from the U. S. Civil Service at Fort Polk, LA, where she was a dental assistant for 25 years. Later she was employed as a dispatcher at the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office for 12 years. Jewel was a charter member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at Beauregard Memorial Hospital and also a manager at the War Memorial Civic Center in DeRidder. She served on a missionary trip to Antigua, West Indies and was a lifelong Christian and member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by two sons, Robert E. Smith and wife Cynthia Ann and Charles C. Smith and wife Debbie, all of DeRidder, LA; two daughters, Cheryl Ann Smith-Garrett of Memphis, TN and Marilyn King-Hicks and husband Al of New Orleans, LA; 1 brother, Wesley Wells of DeQuincy, LA; one sister Reellies Simpson of Dallas, TX; eight grandchildren and fourteen great, grandchildren.
