Jerry Green's Obituary
Jerry Green was born on January 28, 1937 in Hornbeck, LA to his parents, Irene Jett Conover and Henry E. Green and passed away February 22, 2026 at the age of 89.
He was a lifelong resident of Hornbeck, LA and attended Oak Grove Bible Baptist Church where he was the Church Treasurer for over 50 years. He attended school in Hornbeck but at the age of 16, he was granted an emancipation and joined the United States Army where he served three years as a combat engineer during the Korean Era. After returning home, he got his GED and started attending Trade School where he met a special young lady named Betty. They married and had three children. They were married nearly 60 years before her passing.
After the Army, he worked and retired as a Heavy Equipment Engineer at Ft. Polk, LA. He loved to mechanic and tinker on small engines. Later, he took up woodworking and would build small pieces of furniture, walking sticks and canes. It was nothing for him to meet a stranger and give them a cane he had made if they looked like they needed one. His other favorite hobbies were fishing and making arrowheads. He was really glad when Diane bought a "fishing camp" on Vernon Lake for him and Betty to hang out at. He would go to Beverly's school and do arrowhead chipping demos for students during special events.
He is proceeded in death by his wife, Betty, his parents, his brothers Terry and Rick, and his sister Pam.
Left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Judy Cheromiah of Lebanon, TN and Sharon Hanson of Battle Ground, WA; children: Sharon (Diane) Green of Anacoco, LA, Beverly Frederick and husband Branan of Burkeville, TX, and David Green of Hornbeck, LA; grandchildren: Chase Frederick, Jade' Frederick and Michael Frederick and a host of nieces and nephews from Tennessee to California.
