James "Sam" Williams' Obituary
Funeral services for James “Sam” Williams, 83, of Hornbeck will be held Friday, October 23rd
at 10:00 a.m., at Oak Grove Bible Baptist Church in Hornbeck with Bro. John Northway, Bro. Edwin McCullough & C.V. Chance officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Hornbeck. Visitation will begin on Thursday, October 22nd from 5 p.m. until time of service at the church. Services are under the direction of the Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville, Louisiana.
Mr. Williams passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at his residence in Hornbeck.
Mr. Williams was born on February 18, 1926 to James “Jim” & Catherine Williams. In 1952 he joined the United States Marines attaining the rank of Corporal. Upon his discharge in 1954, he went to work for the Louisiana Highway Department. After 25 years of driving a truck for the Highway Department he retired in 1987 to come home and spend time with his wife and to work on the farm.
Mr. Williams enjoyed life to the fullest, he never let much get him down. He loved to talk & never met a stranger. He could always start a conversation even if he didn’t know you.
Mr. Williams loved to garden & oversee his livestock & when he was able, he loved to ride horses. Most of all he loved spending time with his family & especially his grandchildren, they were his life. He enjoyed hearing his grandson Cody, play the piano. He would sit for hours to listen to him play some of his favorites.
Mr. Williams is preceded in death by his father & mother; one brother Dow Williams; two sisters Mae Behan & Fern Simmons; one brother-in-law Glen Moore and a father-in-law Robert Moore.
Mr. Williams is survived by his loving wife of 54 years whom he loved dearly; Lillie Jewel Williams of Hornbeck; Three Sons & Daughter-in-laws - Anthony & Shannon Williams of Hornbeck, Rodney & Leah Williams of Hornbeck, and Stevie & Kirou Williams of Mililani, Hawaii; Two Brothers & Sister-in-laws - Robert Ed & Shirley Williams of Bossier, LA and Jesse & Linda Williams of Sulphur, LA; One Sister & Brother-in-law - Daisy & Bob Likes of New Llano, LA; Seven Grandchildren – Cody Williams, Megan Williams, Morgan Williams & Duncan Williams all of Hornbeck, & K.J. Williams, Yuskie Williams & Stephanie Williams all of Mililani, Hawaii; A host of nieces & nephews; Special Friends - Gerry & Betty Green, Roger & Barbara Therrell, & Coydell and Jeanette Jackson.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Williams, Rodney Williams, Duncan Williams, Ralph Edward Williams, Ben Prewitt, & Johnny Rivers.
