James Allen Travis' Obituary
James Allen Travis departed this earthly world on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at Westwood Manor Nursing Facility in DeRidder. Services will be held under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Danny Wilson officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., on Monday, February 13, 1012, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery of DeRidder.
Mr. Travis was born in Merryville, LA, and was a resident of the Bancroft Community until entering the U.S. Army to serve in WWII in 1941. He served with the 728th Amphibian Tractor Division in the Pacific Theater where he served with distinction receiving several medals and awards.
Mr. Travis was a member of the Beauregard Parish Fair Board for many years and was selected King Beau Fair in 1988. He served on the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Board for 0ver 30 years. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and retired from the City of DeRidder as a water plant operator. He was an avid gardener and sportsman, loving fishing, hunting and trapping.
Mr. Travis was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Elsie Moses Travis and daughter-in-law, Barbara Denby Travis. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, three sons, Raulin Travis and wife Dottie of DeRidder, Charles Travis and wife Becky of DeRidder and Bartley Travis of DeRidder; seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind one brother, Robert Grayson Travis and wife Becky of DeQuincy.
