Larry was a 1968 Graduate of Negreet High School and a short-term student at NSU, before beginning his career as an oil field mechanic for Storm Drilling Co., where he worked for the next 20 years.
In 1976, thanks to a red and white Ford LTD, he met his loving wife to be, Deloris (Johnson).
Married in the spring of 1977, they made their forever home in Deloris’ hometown of Cravens, LA.
Larry enjoyed the simple life of a farmer and raising cattle. He believed in working for what you get and working even harder to fix it when it breaks.
He could tell stories with anyone, and there was never a subject on which he didn’t have an opinion. The knowledge of useless information he held would have made him a strong contestant on “Jeopardy.”
Larry loved four things in this world: his wife, his children, his grand-children, and his 1996 Ford F-250 (and license plate). He was always talking about one of them.
The only thing he loved more in life was God. He could spend hours discussing scripture when company made for good conversation, or minutes to provide revelation, if an opportunity presented itself. From the store “at the top of the hill”, to the backyard swing, these conversations never needed a designated location.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Georgia Nelson and sister Madeline Fitzgerald.
Those left to cherish Larry’s memory are his wife of 43 years, Deloris Johnson Nelson of Pitkin, LA; sons, Darrell Nelson and wife Alicia of Ragley, LA and Jamey Nelson and wife Mackenzie of Denham Springs, La; daughter, Crystal Lemoine and husband Jeremy of Cypress, TX; sister, Margorie Savell of Florien, LA; 4 grandchildren, Conner, Mason, Olivia and Deacon and a host of other family members.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are: Roger White, Evin Elliott, Jack Bass, Ricky Johnson, Johnny Johnson and Joey Johnson.
