James Robert Meeks Sr.'s Obituary
Funeral services for James R. Meeks, Sr., 75, of DeRidder, will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at 2 pm at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder, with Rev. Frank Ott and Rev. Rod Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Smyrna Cemetery in Sugartown, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 18, 2017, from 5 pm until 9 pm at the funeral home.
James, the son of James and Ophelia Horton Meeks, was born on May 22, 1941, in Hermitage, Tennessee. He passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2017, in DeRidder, LA.
He was preceded in death by his father; James Meeks, mother and step-father; Ophelia and John Grider; brother; Jerry Meeks; two sisters; Linda and Sarah; and first wife, Patricia Stephenson Meeks.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Zenda Meeks of DeRidder; son, J. R. Meeks, Jr (Stefanie) of Baton Rouge, LA; daughters, Debbie Johnson (Roger) of DeRidder, LA, Deidra Hyatt (Tim) of Sugartown, LA, Jenni Sanders (Keith) of Sugartown, LA, Traci Mayes of Houston, TX; brothers, Lee Meeks of Ashland City, TN, Edward Meeks of Ashland City, TN; sister, Lorine Pierce of Russell Springs, KY, 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
James was born in Hermitage, TN, he grew up in Jamestown, KY and entered the U.S Marine Corp at an early age. He was a veteran of the U.S Marines and the U.S Army, serving his country for twenty one years. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam.
He loved to hunt and fish and especially being with his grandchildren.
