James "Jay" Grant Farquhar's Obituary
James "Jay" Grant Farquhar, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully in his hometown of DeRidder, Louisiana on March 31, 2025. Born on March 29, 1946 to Henry and Marion Farquhar, Jay lived a life rich with love and laughter that touched everyone who knew him.
For over four decades, Jay shared his life with the love of his life—his wife Judith "Judy" Farquhar. Their bond was one forged through years of companionship and mutual respect as they built their lives together. From constructing their log cabin home by hand to nurturing gardens filled with vibrant daylilies and bountiful vegetables and fruits at Oleo Gardens, every moment spent together was an adventure.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Jay served his country honorably before embarking on a fulfilling career as a lineman for Cleco Electric for thirty-five years. His dedication to hard work mirrored the values he instilled in those around him—integrity and perseverance were hallmarks of his character.
Jay's passions extended beyond work; he found joy in fishing trips where he could relax by the water’s edge or woodworking projects that showcased both skill and creativity. He had an infectious sense of humor that brought smiles to faces near and far; whether it was playfully teasing friends or sharing light-hearted jokes with family members during gatherings—the warmth he radiated made every occasion memorable.
Family meant everything to Jay. He is survived by daughter-in-law Linda Simmons; son-in-love Keith Harris along with wife Kim; grandson Justin Simmons married to Kimberlee; as well as three cherished great-grandchildren: Jaxstin, Jacee, and James—the true lights of his life. The time spent riding four-wheelers or buggies alongside them created lasting memories that will forever be etched in their hearts.
Preceded in death by parents Henry & Marion Farquhar along with son Earl Wayne Simmons—a loss felt deeply within the family—Jay leaves behind not just memories but also lessons about love’s enduring power amidst life's challenges.
Celebration of Life honoring Jay’s memory will be held on Saturday, April 19th at 10:30 AM at Lewis Cemetery in DeRidder, services entrusted to Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder. As we remember Jay today—and always—we celebrate a man whose spirit remains alive through each story told among loved ones gathered together in remembrance.
