James "Olin" Cole's Obituary
James “Olin” Cole, 91, entered peacefully into rest on Friday, November 5, 2021 at his home in DeRidder with his family by his side. Olin was born on January 16, 1930 in Florien, LA to Sam and Vivian (Ricks) Cole.
Visitation will be on Saturday, November 6, 2021, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at Broadlands Bible Church located at 6423 US 171, DeRidder, LA and will continue on Sunday, November 7, 2021, starting at 3:00 PM. Funeral service will be held Sunday, November 7, 2021, at 4:00 PM, at the church with Rev. Mark Land and Rev. Tim Bergen, Pastor of Broadlands Bible Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder with military honors. Funeral services under the care of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder.
Olin retired from Boise Cascade where he worked in the maintence department. He loved gardening especially raising his prize “celebrity” tomatoes for his loving wife of 65 years. He lived a simple life, enjoyed traveling with his loving wife, and spending time with family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 65 years, Mary “Bernice” Cole of DeRidder, LA; sisters, “Eff” Corley of Hornbeck, LA, Vivian “Babe” Sparks of Florien, LA, and Sandra Liggio and husband Jack of Moss Bluff, LA; grandchildren, Mary Naquin and husband Marc of Evangeline, LA, Tiffany Dupin and husband Jesse of Pretoria, South Africa, and Jason Basco of West Lake, LA; great grandchildren, Matthew, Marc, Maverick, and Madisyn Naquin, Jacob and Ethan Dupin, Bradley, Cameron, and Baleigh Basco; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents Sam and Vivian Cole; sons Dewey Randall “Randy” Basco and Larry Wayne Basco; brother Buford Cole; and sister Sammie Armour.
Those honored to serve as pallbearer are Darrell Cronce, Jim Corley, Eric Woodard, Steve Miller, Louis Powell, and Jim Bel.
Those honored to serve as honorary pallbearer are Jerry Cooley and James Carpenter.
The family would like to thank everyone for the care received by Brenda Fontenot and Lori Hanks with Admedisys Hospice as well as their team. Thank you also to special care providers, Tammy Harris Holloway, Jessica Woodard, Frances Miller, Alice Fockler, Council On Aging, Companion Care corporation, and Mrs. Janie Brister. We appreciate all the family and friends with words of encouragement, prayers, and support during this time.
