Jacqueline "Jackie" Joyce Friend's Obituary
Jacqueline "Jackie" Joyce Friend, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025, in Longville, Louisiana. Born on February 18, 1942, in DeQuincy to Ruth Havens Dougherty and her stepfather Charlie Dougherty, Jackie lived a life filled with love and devotion to her family.
Jackie's journey was marked by resilience and dedication. She proudly served in the United States Navy before embarking on a lifelong commitment to nurturing those around her. Her greatest joy came from being surrounded by her children—Carl Friend Jr. (Kellie), Charles "Chuck" Friend (Bridgett), Clarence Friend (Joan) all of Longville, and daughter: Shawnee Atchison of Tennessee—as well as her eleven cherished grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren who brought light into her life.
A woman of many passions, Jackie had an unwavering love for animals that mirrored the kindness she showed everyone she met. She found happiness in simple pleasures: shopping for bargains at sales or spending hours tending to her yard where vibrant roses bloomed under her care. Crafting became another outlet for Jackie's creativity; each handmade piece reflected the warmth of her spirit.
Family trips were sacred moments for Jackie; they created lasting memories filled with laughter that will be treasured forever by those fortunate enough to share them with her. Her legacy is one of unconditional love—a testament seen through the lives she touched deeply throughout the years.
Preceded in death by Leo Carl Friend Sr., whom she lovingly called husband for fifty-eight wonderful years; four siblings; along with other loved ones who have gone before—Jackie's absence leaves an irreplaceable void within all who knew and adored her.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday evening April 1st from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder. A graveside service honoring Jackie's remarkable life will follow on Wednesday morning April 2nd at Havens Cemetery in Singer at 11:00 AM led by Rev. Tim Bergen.
Serving as pallbearers are Christopher Friend, Daniel Friend, Stephen Friend, Jacob Friend, Ethan Friend & Caleb Friend—all proud descendants carrying forward their matriarch’s legacy of strength and compassion.
