Imogene Roller Feazel's Obituary
Imogene Roller Feazel, 81, of DeRidder, Louisiana, died Tuesday, May 23, 2017. She was born in Church Hill, Tennessee, on Oct. 17, 1935 to J.D. Roller and Edna Louise Marshall in Hawkins County, Tennessee. She lived 55 of her adult years in the DeRidder/Rosepine area. Most recently she lived in Boerne, Texas.
Imogene traveled extensively with her family as her father built bridges, wind tunnels, and other structures across the nation. She attended 21 different schools from Tennessee to California before graduating from high school.
After graduating from Natchitoches High School in 1953, Imogene put down roots in Louisiana earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics Education from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. She taught home economics in the DeRidder/Rosepine area for three years. During that time she met and married John Feazel. She left teaching to begin their family.
Imogene was active in the community. She was a Girl Scout leader for eight years. She was a charter member of DeRidder Civinettes (1971) and served as a member of the board of directors, treasurer and president. On the district level, she was secretary-treasurer. She was a charter member of the Beauregard CowBelles/Cattle Women (1970) and has held every office of the club at least once and served as president for three years. She was a member of Louisiana CowBelles/CattleWomen and served as secretary-treasurer (1975), president (1978) and treasurer/membership chairman (1985-1997). She was named Beauregard CowBelle of the Year and Louisiana CowBelle of the Year in 1985. In 1997, she was inducted into the Spur Club of the Louisiana Cattlemen’s Association. She was a member of Rosepine PTO and served for a term as a treasurer. In 1974, she was named DeRidder Business and Professional Woman of the Week. Imogene was a member of the DeRidder Gardenettes beginning in 1978. She was the secretary from 1979-1982 and treasurer from 1982-2011. In 2014, she was given Azalea membership for her years of service as an officer and active membership. She was also a member of Louisiana Garden Federation. As a member of First Presbyterian Church in DeRidder, she served as a Sunday School teacher, Circle Treasurer, and on lots of cooking details. In 1999, she and John joined First United Methodist Church of DeRidder. Imogene grew up in the Methodist Church and worked for the church during her college years. She and John were married in the First Methodist Church in Natchitoches on Aug. 1, 1959.
In 1993, John retired from the LSU Rosepine Research Station with 37 years of service. They moved from the station to DeRidder. They raised a few cows, landscaped their home’s grounds, traveled and researched their genealogy. They discovered that their families lived 18 miles apart in 1787 but likely never met until John and Imogene began their family story in the 1950s. Devoted to each other and their family, they were actively involved in their daughters, granddaughters and extended family’s lives.
Imogene is survived by daughters Cynthia (Cindy) Jean Funderburg and her husband, Eddie, of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Mary Elizabeth Feazel Scotka and her husband, Dennis, of Pipe Creek, Texas; granddaughters Rebecca Lynn and Amanda Jean Funderburg of Ardmore, Oklahoma.
She was proceeded in death by her husband of 52 years, John; her parents, and daughter Deanna May Lutz and grandson Aaron Funderburg.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder, Louisiana. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Beauregard Cemetery.
