Huey Bailery Jr.'s Obituary
Funeral services for Huey Bailey, Jr., will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at Palestine Baptist Church in Grant, Louisiana with Rev. Terry Wright, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Vidor, Texas officiating the funeral service, and the Eulogy will be given by his nephew, Tim Cooley. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service in the church. Following services, the burial will take place at Palestine Baptist Church Cemetery.
Huey Bailey, Jr., 89, of Grant, LA, passed from this life on Friday, February 23, 2024, in his home with his loving family by his side. Huey, who was the son of the late Huey Bailey, Sr. and the late Gladys Whitaker Bailey, was born November 26, 1934, in DeRidder, LA. He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Bailey. Prior to meeting his wife, Kathleen Bailey, Huey served in the United States Army for six (6) years, having been stationed at Fort Chaffee Arkansas and in Germany. He served as active duty from 1957 to 1959 and reserve duty from 1959 to 1963. He met Kathleen Garlington in 1959 and they married on June 2, 1961. Shortly thereafter, Huey and Kathleen moved to Vidor, TX. Following his military service, he was hired by the United States Army and worked at the Port of Beaumont, shipping military equipment to Vietnam. He worked for the Army for approximately 10 years. After the conclusion of the Vietnam War, Mr. Bailey joined the ILA Union and continued his work for the Port of Beaumont until his retirement in 1991. In 1983, Huey started Grant Christmas Tree Farm with Kathleen and later sold the business to his daughter and son-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Huey Bailey, Sr. and Gladys Whitaker Bailey of DeRidder, LA; two (2) full sisters, Shelby Jean Bailey Cooley of DeRidder, LA and Myreline Bailey Monroe of DeRidder, LA; one (1) half-sister Vera Mae Bailey Moses of DeRidder; and one (1) half-brother Vernon Bailey of DeRidder
Huey is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Kathleen Garlington Bailey; son Dale Nathan Bailey and wife Karen Bailey of Buna, TX; daughter Mollie Bailey Anderson and husband Gray Anderson of Elizabeth, LA; grandchildren Nathan Anderson (Mallory), Seth Anderson, Marybeth Anderson Aker (Will), Dalton Bailey (Lauren), Bailey Anderson, Laura Anderson, Kobie Bailey, Faith Anderson, and Ansley Anderson; and seven (7) great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Anderson, Seth Anderson, Dalton Bailey, Kobie Bailey, William Aker, and Bob Simmons. Great-Grandsons, Duke Anderson and Gray Anderson, are honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Dry Creek Baptist Camp.
